Gene was a friend to many and probably one of the most respected men that attended the genealogy chat in the Family Treehouse on AOL ,on a regular basis.

Gene was a man of few words, but when he said something it usually was a gem! Something either to laugh at or to set you thinking.

Gene never spoke often of his service to his country other then a quip now and again abou t gunmetal gray and having to paint a few times.

I will stand today and thank him for that service to his country.

So as not to seem as if I am babbling, something Gene hated :) and heaven forbid I should get sappy!

I  will share with you somethings I think Gene would appreciate.

Redneck Family Tree

Many many years ago
when I was twenty three,
I got married to a widow who
was pretty as could be.

This widow had a grown-up daughter
Who had hair of red.
My father fell in love with her,
And soon the two were wed.

This made my dad my son-in-law
And changed my very life.
My daughter was my mother,
For she was my father's wife.

To complicate the matters worse,
Although it brought me joy,
I soon became the father
Of a bouncing baby boy.

My little baby then became
A brother-in-law to dad.
And so became my uncle,
Though it made me very sad.

For if he was my uncle,
Then that also made him brother
To the widow's grown-up daughter
Who, of course, was my step-mother.

Father's wife then had a son,
Who kept them on the run
And he became my grandson,
For he was my daughter's son.

My wife is now my mother's mother
And it makes me blue.
Because, although she is my wife,
She's my grandmother too.

If my wife is my grandmother,
Then I am her grandchild.
And every time I think of it,
It simply drives me wild.

For now I have become
The strangest case you ever saw.
As the husband of my grandmother,I
am my own grandpa!

You can make memorial donations to the American Cancer Society.

You might be a redneck if. . ..

It never occurred to you to be offended by the phrase,

"One nation, under God ... "

You've never protested about seeing the Ten Commandments posted in public places.
You still say "Christmas" instead of "Winter Festival."
You bow your head when someone prays.
You stand and place your hand over your heart when they play the National Anthem.

You treat American Veterans with great respect, and always have.
You've never burned an American flag.

You know what you believe and you aren't afraid to say so, no matter who is listening.

You respect your elders and expect your kids to do the same.

You'd give your last dollar to a friend.
